Coming home to yourself
Questions about sexual orientation can stir up some of the most tender and important feelings a person ever carries. You may be quietly wondering about your identity for the first time. You may have known for a long time and be trying to decide whether or how to share it. You may feel joy, confusion, fear, relief, or all of these at once. Wherever you are on that path, I want you to know that you are welcome exactly as you are. I offer affirming, compassionate support to individuals and couples in Sarasota and across Florida and Connecticut who are exploring, understanding, or living into their sexual orientation.
Let me be completely clear about the foundation of this work. I believe that every orientation is healthy, valid, and worthy of celebration. There is nothing to fix, nothing to cure, and nothing to be ashamed of. My role is never to steer you toward any particular conclusion about who you are. It is to walk alongside you as you discover and honor your own truth, at your own pace and in your own words.
Exploration is normal and human
Understanding one's sexual orientation is a natural part of being human, and it is not always a single, simple moment of clarity. For some people it is. For many others it unfolds over time, with questions and reflection along the way. You do not need to have everything figured out to seek support. In fact, the space to think out loud, without pressure and without judgment, is often exactly what helps clarity emerge.
Orientation can also be fluid for some people, shifting or deepening across a lifetime, and that too is completely normal. You are not required to fit any label neatly, and you are not required to have known forever. Your experience is valid whether it feels certain or still unfolding. There is no wrong way to be yourself, and there is no timeline you are behind on.
What this can bring up
Exploring your orientation touches many parts of life, and it is natural for a range of feelings and questions to arise. Naming them together often brings relief.
Identity and self-understanding
At the heart of this work is a simple, profound question: who am I, and how do I want to live in alignment with that. We create space to explore your feelings, your history, and your hopes, without any push toward a predetermined answer. For many people, simply having a safe place to speak these things aloud is deeply freeing. You get to sort through your own experience with a steady, affirming companion who has no agenda other than your wholeness.
Coming out, in your own time
If you are considering sharing your identity with others, we can think through that carefully together. Coming out is not one event but often a series of choices, different for each relationship and each setting. There is no single right way to do it and no obligation to do it on anyone else's schedule. I help you consider your safety, your readiness, and your hopes, and to prepare for a range of responses. You remain in control of your own story, always. We can also talk through the disappointment or grief that sometimes comes when a response is not what you hoped, and the deep joy when you are met with love.
Minority stress and its weight
Living as a sexual minority in a world that is not always accepting carries a real and documented burden, something researchers call minority stress. It is the chronic strain of navigating misunderstanding, prejudice, or the fear of rejection. If you feel tired, guarded, anxious, or worn down, please know that this is not weakness. It is a natural response to carrying an extra weight that others do not have to carry. In our work, we tend to those wounds, build resilience, and help you find and strengthen sources of support and belonging. You deserve to move through the world with your shoulders down and your heart at ease.
Relationships and family
Questions of orientation ripple through relationships. You may be navigating what this means for a current partnership, for your marriage, or for your family. I work with individuals and with couples, and I hold space for the full complexity of these situations with care and without judgment. Whether you are figuring out your own identity, supporting a partner through theirs, or finding your way as a couple through change, you are welcome here.
Faith, culture, and belonging
For many people, questions of orientation are woven together with faith, culture, and community. You may love traditions that have not always known how to make room for you, or you may be sorting through messages from a religious or cultural background that shaped how you see yourself. These layers deserve to be held with real respect. I do not ask you to choose between parts of yourself. Instead, I help you explore how your identity, your values, and your sense of belonging can fit together in a way that feels authentic and whole to you. You are the one who gets to define what integration looks like in your own life, and I am here to support that process, not to direct it.
Discovering later in life
Some people come to these questions after years of living a life they thought was settled, perhaps within a long marriage or after raising a family. If that is your story, please know that there is nothing strange or shameful about it. People come to understand themselves at every age, and a later realization is no less valid or real than an early one. It can carry its own particular tenderness, and sometimes grief, and I hold space for all of it. It is never too late to live more honestly, and it is never too late to build a life that fits who you truly are.
How I work
My approach is warm, affirming, and grounded in respect for your autonomy. I draw on narrative therapy, which honors that you are the author of your own life story and helps you separate your true self from the messages you may have absorbed from a less accepting world. I use emotionally focused and systemic approaches to tend to your relationships and to the deeper needs underneath your feelings. And throughout, I bring a sex-positive, judgment-free presence, so that nothing you say will be met with anything but respect.
Our sessions are talk therapy in a calm, confidential space. There is nothing explicit and nothing physical. We simply talk, openly and honestly, guided by someone who is genuinely glad you exist exactly as you are. You set the pace and the direction. My job is to make sure you never feel alone in it.
I also want you to know that you do not have to prove anything to me, and you do not have to arrive at any particular label or conclusion for our work to be worthwhile. Some people leave with a clear sense of their identity, and others simply leave feeling lighter, more accepting of themselves, and less alone. Both are meaningful outcomes. What matters is that you have a place to be fully honest and fully accepted while you find your own way.
I want to name something plainly, because it matters. I do not now, and never will, practice anything resembling so-called conversion or reparative approaches. Those practices are harmful and discredited, and they have no place in ethical care. My work is only ever affirming. I am here to help you become more fully and freely yourself, never less.
Reassurance
If you are carrying fear or shame right now, I want to speak gently to that. The messages that taught you to feel that way were not the truth about you. There is nothing wrong with who you are. The discomfort you feel is not evidence of a flaw in you. It is often the residue of a world that did not yet know how to celebrate you. In our work, we can set that weight down, piece by piece, and replace it with self-acceptance and even pride.
You also do not need to arrive with clarity or courage already in hand. You only need to arrive as you are, questions and all. Clarity tends to come not from pushing but from being met with acceptance and given room to breathe. I will hold that room for you.
An invitation to be fully yourself
You deserve to live in alignment with your truth, to love and be loved openly, and to feel at home in your own life. That is what this work is about. Whether you are just beginning to ask these questions or are ready to step more fully into who you are, you do not have to walk it alone.
From my office at MindSpa Integrative Wellness Center in Sarasota, or virtually anywhere in Florida, I offer a safe, affirming, and completely judgment-free place to explore, understand, and celebrate who you are.
If you are ready to begin, I warmly invite you to reach out for a free, confidential consultation. There is no pressure and no obligation. It is simply a chance to meet me, share a little about where you are, and see whether working together feels right. You are worthy of a life lived openly and a love that is fully your own, and I would be honored to walk that path with you.
